According to a Crow tale, “the Little People” live under the earth, making sure the rivers flow.

Crow people leave gifts and offerings for the Little People at the prairie gap in the mountains to stay in their good graces. They also ask for guidance and protection from Red Fox, the little peoples’ leader.

Listen to Crow storyteller Grant Bulltail recount the tale in the video and sing a Crow-language song his mother heard the little people sing.

Prompt: Grant Bulltail’s story is part of the Native Living Memory project, seeking to preserve and amplify Indigenous culture. Think of some stories from people in your own life that are worth preserving today. How might these influence your creative practice?
